The
Life Skill Curriculum
A life skills curriculum offers more than just a few ideas about how to
live your life. For my daughter, it was an essential part of learning to
be a good person as well. Sure, we always encouraged good use of her time,
treating people the right way, and teaching her basic ideals. But, we wanted
her to be ready to experience life. We knew that in our home schooling
home that we kept our children a little secluded from the realities of
life. A life skill curriculum actually helped us to provide additional
skills for her.
What we found was that a good life skills curriculum also offers to
incorporate life skills into each and every subject. One lesson we had
was how valuable money is. On an expedition to a store, she was able
to correctly stay within budget while still providing excellent meal
choices for the week. We encouraged her to make the meals, helping her
as needed. Later we taught her about all sorts of things but they were
provided to us in a fun way. It didn’t seem like other home schooling
curriculums where it was all work.
For our daughter, it was simply essential to provide a good set of life
skills. While some other home schooling programs made it work, we found
it enjoyable to open the door to new projects whether it be handling
a budget or creating a resume for an interview. Even though we have home
schooled her since she was little, she seemed to enjoy the life skill
curriculum atmosphere that was necessary to provide a good environment
for our child that would last her for years to come.
